The use of instruments in medicine dates from the beginning of time when healers used simple tools along with herbs and incantations to treat the sick. As medical knowledge and craftsmanship advanced, so did the complexity and beauty of the instrumentation, sometimes ironically to the detriment of medical care.

The purpose of this website is to illustrate the fine craftsmanship of the past and to put this great talent in perspective of the traditions of the times - the contrast is often dramatic as you will see.

I have been collecting medical antiques for over 25 years and invite you to join me and learn more about this exciting hobby. Feel free to contact me with your questions and comments. I am always anxious to add to my collection (see wish list). Please contact me if you have anything to sell or would like some information on your antique.

The second century bust of Aesculapius seen on the front page is the center point of my collection. Aesculapius was the Roman God of medicine (after the Greek God of the same name) and represents some of the finest craftsmanship you will see in this collection.
