Many of the antiques and illustrations pictured in the following twelve chapters are from my collection, but I have also included a number of artifacts located in museums, art galleries, and private collections from around the world. I have tried to include representative instruments from all branches of medicine and surgery, though this is obviously an impossible task, and one that remains ongoing.
I patterned the following Antique Chapters after my book Medicine: Perspectives in History and Art in which I presented instruments with contemporary art, quotes, and in texts to give the reader a better perspective of their use. I have tried to follow that pattern in a small way in this web site. You may enlarge each illustration by clicking it, and it will further enlarge with a click to the right upper corner.
